The Falls Reception and Conference Center, Columbia IL

Finally got the opportunity to make it out to the metro east for a venue tour. First stop, The Falls Reception and Conference Center in Columbia IL. Thank you to Joe the owner for a very informative tour. This was not a solo tour had my good friend and wedding planner Tami Heroff with Perfect Day Weddings and Events with me.

As far as a "Children's Room" The Falls has a great little space for a small group (8 or less) children. The space is actually the Bridal Suite. If your wedding has more than 8 children there is a Hampton Inn 4 blocks from the venue that offers free shuttles to and from the venue. The Hampton Inn offers a nice size suite that could accommodate 10-15 children. Contact The Hampton Inn for suite rates 1-618-281-9000.

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa

I had the great pleasure of touring the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in St. Charles last week with Jodie Parker, Sales Manager. I really like the layout and flow of this venue as well as the sassy decor.

Included in our tour,  a room called "Insight." Insight is a great option for a "Children's Room." This is a large room that could accommodate a group of 30 or less children. Insight connects, by door with 3 other rooms; Prosperity, Vision, and Success. With these rooms there is the option of booking 2 connecting rooms for large group of children (30-60). The room rental fee is $350.00 with an option of no cost if willing to wait for availability. Included in room rental is a drop down projector.

Another "children's room" option is renting a hotel room. Ameristar has wonderful suite options! There are two options for hotel rooms the first, King Spa Suite the second, Standard King or Double Suite. Depending on the number of children 10 or less a standard double would be appropriate for 11-14 children the Standard King and for 15-20 children the King Spa. Contact reservations for room rates.

Ameristar offers a children's menu. The Sales Manager can provide a complete list of available foods but the most popular option is the Chicken Strips, french fries and fruit cup meal. The pp for the children's menu is $26.00

The Wedding Show at America's Center

STL Wedding Sitters had a wonderful time last Sunday at the Wedding Show sponsored by St. Louis Bride & Groom magazine. Lots and lots of brides, some grooms (way to hang in there grooms), as well as family and friends.

My assistant Sherry and I were busy for the moment the doors opened. Fielding questions left and right. Seems like a growing trend that has been coming down the pike for awhile now is "adult only" receptions/wedding events. Adult only events are not headline news but it does seem like more and more brides and quit frankly the mother of the brides are really trying to cover all their bases for guest coming from out of town or guest in the wedding with small children.





It's always a good idea to consider the whole picture when planning your wedding. Details like, if it is an adult only reception what do you do with the ring bearer and flower girl after the ceremony? Happy Planning!

What I really enjoyed about this venue is it's versatility. With 3 ballrooms and a banquet room the Gateway offers two different reception looks. One look is your traditional banquet style space referred to as the LaSalle Room. The LaSalle boost a large cocktail hour area which includes a bar, restrooms, and a large open space for cabaret tables and furniture. With the 3 ballrooms you really have a blank slate. Neutral decor throughout you can turn this space into your version.


Gateway offers several "Children's Room" options. One options includes a coat check room (pictured below) for small groups of 10 and under. A couple other room options are located within the Conference Wing area. Small to large rooms that can be open or have floating walls. 

Gateway Details:

  • Rental space is $100 for any room option if reception is booked at the GC. Rental includes self serve water station and table and chair set-up.

  • Children's menu available. Price for 3-10 year olds is 50% off pp rate and 3 and under are not counted

Four Seasons Hotel

OMG! I think I have died and gone to heaven.

 I toured the Four Seasons this morning and had an opportunity to meet with Marianne Moore, Director of Catering and Conference Services. I was taken down to the "Kids for all Seasons" room which is a space open to Four Seasons guests including brides and grooms who book their wedding event at the Four Seasons.

This room is like a picture out of a fabulous child care magazine, I mean wow! This space totally has children in mind. The room boasts child sized tables and chairs, bathrooms, diaper changing area, cubbies for personal items, flat screen TV, radio, and stocked shelves with toys, games, stuffed animals, etc. See why I have died and gone to heaven? lol

Additional bonuses:
  • Cribs are also available for our younger friends.
  • Children's buffet with a variety of "kid friendly" food. The pp rate is $25.00.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel

Thank you Robin Albach, Director of Catering Sales for providing Tami Heroff with Perfect Day Weddings and Events and myself with a such wonderful tour of the beautifully stunning Ritz Carlton.

Folks, it's not called the Ritz for nothing. What an amazing space! Here's what the Ritz offers to it's youngest guest when partying it up for a wedding event:
  1. Plastic to cover the floors...yep plastic. OMG my assistants and I have died and gone to heaven! :)
  2. Cribs
  3. Kids Menu at $25.00 per child as well the availability for outside food to be brought in for the kiddos (only).
  4. 2 different meeting room options as well as a sweet suite..... hee hee sweet suite..that's funny. I totally fell in love with the hotel room suite as a children's room. This space is awesome. One super large living room with furniture and attached bathroom, one extra large bedroom with attached bathroom that's bigger than my master bedroom lol, and doors to separate rooms. Love it, love it! So brides and grooms note to self.....pick the suite pick the suite. :)
